By Denise L. Berkhalter, APR

It is with a heavy heart that the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors announces the resignation of beloved CEO Clifford Long effective at the end of December. The Board immediately began a search process and has appointed longtime real estate association professional Phillip Horton to serve as Interim CEO.

“Our association has benefited greatly under Cliff's leadership,” said 2017 BAR President Faith Harper. “We greatly appreciate his service to our organization and will long feel the positive impact of his accomplishments. Please join me in wishing Cliff the very best in his new endeavor.”

Long has been named CEO of a 14,000-member mega association, the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association. He has served as the Association Executive/CEO of BAR and its corporate subsidiary the Greater Alabama Multiple Listing Service since 2012.

“Birmingham will always be home to me,” Long said. “I love this city, its people, and especially its REALTORS®.”

Guided by BAR’s leadership and strategic plan, Horton will supervise association operations until the search process concludes. His member-centric approach to association work will serve BAR well, as will his more than 17 years of experience and leadership with the Alabama Association of REALTORS®. Horton joined BAR as Outreach Coordinator on April 24, 2017.
